Soft Answers

A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.

Proverbs 15:1‭-‬2 NKJV

Wanna get in an argument? Post your opinion on social media. Want to irritate someone else while driving? Just be driving too🤦‍♀️. We live in a knee jerk reaction society. Most people are terrified or are just waiting to be set off.

We as believers can change the atmosphere around us in a very simple way. Be peaceful. The temptation to lay into someone either on the internet or in person is very strong, and that is why God knew we'd need some help. When confronted, give a soft answer. Soft doesn't mean passive. To me, it means well thought out with the intention of de-escalating the situation while still voicing your thoughts. I've said it before, it is 100% possible to have relationships that involve no yelling. Heated arguments only happen because we allow them to get to that point. Sometimes it may be best to walk away and try again later. I don't remember where I first heard it, but I try to follow the saying, "choose your battles." Is whatever you're arguing about still going to be an issue a month from now? If not, its probably best to just plain walk away. Whatever principles we live by in our daily lives should also apply to social media. We are called to love God, fellow believers, and even our enemies- behind the screen and beyond it.
