Is Your Faith A Cliche?
1 Cor 2:5
We've heard it before, by believers and non-believers alike, "Just have faith." Faith is not an arbitrary wish or hoping reeeaallly hard. A follower of Christ has faith in God. Oxford defines faith as, "complete trust or confidence in someone or something." We can have complete trust and confidence that God will always come through on our behalf. He never changes His mind or actions on a whim (James 1:17.) He is completely trustworthy and is a very safe safe place for us to put our faith. “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;
Deuteronomy 7:9 NKJV
Ephesians defines faith as, "..the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Our salvation alone depends on our belief that Jesus really did live on this earth, take all of humanity's sin on himself, die, and then come back to life. There's nothing we can DO to be forgiven of sins and made new. We simply accept what Jesus did for us and believe it. We didn't see it happen, but faith tells us it did with no question.
What if we don't feel like we have enough faith? Our faith is based on knowing the faithfulness and character of God. One way to grow our faith, then, is by reading the Bible. The Bible has stories and verses that tell us about the character of God. The other way is by making it to the other side of a circumstance and seeing how He brought you, or someone you know, through. If He did it once, He can do it again!
